Larry Shank is one of the main reasons i love Baum so much
without him it will be diminished, in my opinion
from the 7th inning stretch, to National Anthem Sunday, to even the little things like "Did youuuuuuuu see that?"
big shoes to fill....HUGE.

Larry Shank is one of the main reasons i love Baum so much without him it will be diminished, in my opinion I have no doubt that Baum will never be the same. I'm really not looking forward to '08 as much anymore. It's been very difficult to sit through most of the replacements who filled in for Larry in the past and knowing it will be permanent will be tough.

We need to talk this up, about forevermore using a tape of Larry for the seventh inning stretch, as a lasting tribute to him.
As many have said, the atmosphere will NEVER be the same. Larry was the best anywhere at baseball PA.

Hello Sports fans, Larry was such a huge part of the "from out of the past" baseball atmosphere at Baum stadium. Every time I go to the game, it's simply a 3 hour escape from everyday life and I've even said that even after losses I can honestly say that I had a great time and was glad I was there. The combination of a beautiful stadium and yard, beautiful mountains in the background, good baseball, the smell of freshly made kettle corn and the wonderful sounds of Larry Shank's voice is what Razorback baseball is all about (I've teared up while typing and thinking about this).
But at the same time, they will have to find a replacement for Larry and if you want a good replacement then you can't hire someone and tell them that we're going to play a video of the past announcer every 7th inning stretch. You have to hire someone who is very talented and creative and let them do their thing...look how well it worked for Larry. Will it be the same as Larry? No. Will it be as good as Larry? We'll never know unless we let someone else try.
Larry, I'll miss you and your family is in our prayers. WPS

I am just heart broken. Larry will be missed come the first game of the season in football and at SHS. But the hole won't truly be felt until baseball season. He was a great person before being a great announcer. Anytime you got to talk to him he was just as friendly as anyone could be. He was always a gentleman. God Speed Larry. He has been "called up" to early for us, but he was ready for his next announcing job.

Larry was the best I have ever heard. Not just baseball, but every sport at every level. He gave every event/announcement a special touch. Just like saying, "thank ya, thank ya, thank ya," after announcing attendance numbers. Larry had fun and made the ballpark fun for every fan in attendance. I will miss him at games.

Shank leaves behind a stadium full of admirers“ We had a recruit in, ” Van Horn said earlier this week, “ and his dad made the comment, ‘ We were at a game in the spring and your p. a. guy is great ! ’ We’ve heard that a lot from recruits.

Having anyone else introduce my son as he came onto the field would not have been the same.
When I am pondering time spent at Baum, there are only two sounds that fill my head: Callin' the Hogs and the voice of Larry Shank.

I think hooked has hit on an important point as much as there can nevr be someone to replace Larry you have to allow some one to fill in. I think you need to find that balance between tribute and working forward.
I'd rather here Larry Shank's rendition of the National Anthem that pretty much any that I've heard in Baum over the past 10 years (no offense to people like Kyle who have sung). I'd much rather here it than the "specially recorded" version we get half the time. My hope would be that they have a good recording of LArry and that we could replace that for those days.
As for teh stretch I certainly think you can have the video tribute for opening day. But I think we could take a page from the Cubs playbook. Thanks to WGN, Harry Carey's rendition will always be in my mind. we could have different local celebs or (better in my opinion) Baum stadium Vets (not to be confused with GCV, though she does qualify) do their imatation of Shank's rendition.

I think they should have some sort of picture above the press box. Or maybe even rename it the Larry Shank Press Box?
