Sonny Weems made another start for the Raptors in place of injured Linas Kleiza and hit the game-winning three pointer near the end. He finished with 14 points.
He's playing very well and may end up challenging Kleiza for minutes once he returns. Kleiza has been hit or miss this season and the emergence of Weems isn't going to help.

Sonny Weems got another start over Linas Kleiza and scored a career-high 25 points on 10-of-18 shooting in 42 minutes on Wednesday.
He added four boards, two assists and a 3-pointer on the night, and may have permanently locked up the starting job over Kleiza (1-of-7, three points). If Weems is available in your league, he should be picked up immediately after starting and hitting double figures in his sixth straight game.

Sonny Weems started and played 36 minutes on Sunday, going 8-of-20 from the field to score 16 points with five rebounds, one assist and two turnovers.
The most important thing to take from Sunday is that his minutes were not impacted by the return of Leandro Barbosa, who played in his first game since Nov. 8. At this juncture, Weems is clearly the guy to own between Barbosa and Linas Kleiza. Kleiza came off the bench on Sunday and scored just two points with three rebounds in 21 minutes.

Sonny Weems' back locked up during Saturday's practice and he is looking doubtful for Wednesday's game against the Hawks.
Nobody has any real answers in regards to his back, and he has a ways to go before he'll be logging significant minutes on the court. If he can return to practice, he will still need to get into game-shape after a missing three weeks of action.

Coach Jay Triano confirmed that Sonny Weems (back) is going to have a hard time getting back in the rotation.
Weems started 18 straight games before injuring his back. Now, he's been Wally Pipped. DeMar DeRozan is proving he deserves huge minutes, Linas Kleiza is locked in and Leandro Barbosa is coming around. We wouldn't expect Weems' impending return to alter this rotation significantly.

well if that's the case, then he needs to take as much time as needed to get his back to 100%. No reason to rush back

Sonny Weems is reportedly on the verge of signing a one-year contract with a team in Europe.
The Raptors just made Weems a restricted free agent last week he seems to prefer the job security of a deal overseas -- he will not, however, be eligible to opt-out and return to the NBA this season.

Sonny Weems (6'6''-G/F-86, college: Arkansas) has joined Zalgiris Kaunas of Lithuania, signing a contract that will keep him in Europe all season rather than risk sitting out an entire year if the NBA lockout lasts. Roger Montgomery, Weems' agent, said his client signed the deal Thursday without an NBA opt-out clause because he believes the league's uncertain labor situation makes it 'in our best interest to unpack our bags and stay the entire year.' Weems played last season for Toronto and was a restricted free agent. The Raptors extended a qualifying offer, meaning they would maintain the right to match any offer by another team if he returned to the NBA. Montgomery says Weems could play 70 games next season between the Lithuanian and Euroleague schedules, a good opportunity for a young player instead of losing the entire year if the NBA and players don't reach a deal. He didn't disclose the value of the contract. Montgomery started looking for opportunities for his players at the urging of the union, which had been telling agents to be prepared for a long work stoppage. He quickly found a match in the Lithuanian champs, a team he described as needing 'one little boost to get over that hump' and believes the swingman is that player. 'Sonny will be able to go in and make a true impact,' Montgomery said, helping a team 'really in the middle of the pack maybe go to the top of the pack.' Weems, who turned 25 Friday, is not the quality of Deron Williams, who Thursday was nearing a deal to join Besiktas of Turkey in September if the lockout remains. But Montgomery said Weems was the first from the NBA to agree to the deal without the option to return once the lockout ends. That could be a while and Montgomery wasn't willing to wait. 'There's no way I'm going sit by idly and wait for David Stern to decide if he wants to be fair,' Montgomery said. Weems averaged 9.2 points in 59 games for the Raptors last season. Because he is not currently under NBA contract, he is free to make the jump without worry of FIBA approval.
