The Hawks and Nets continue to discuss a possible trade for Joe Johnson, but New Jersey doesn't want to part with MarShon Brooks (whom the Hawks insist on getting), and they are afraid "that they'll be surrendering too much financial flexibility."
It's unclear why New Jersey would entertain trading for Johnson if they want flexibility, as his monstrous contract still has four years and about $89.3 million remaining. The current incarnation of the deal would send the expiring contracts of Jordan Farmar, Johan Petro, Anthony Morrow and Jordan Williams to the Hawks for Johnson, but the Nets would prefer to work a sign-and-trade with one of their free agents (possibly Gerald Green) and keep some of the expiring deals.

Updating a previous report, the Nets and Hawks have agreed to a trade sending Joe Johnson to the Nets, and the deal is not contingent upon Deron Williams signing with Brooklyn.
Yahoo! Sports and CBSSports.com are both reporting that the deal will go through with or without D-Will, but Nets officials were meeting with Williams and told him about the trade as it was completed. The Nets will give up the expiring contracts of Jordan Williams, Johan Petro, Jordan Farmar and Anthony Morrow, a signed-and-traded DeShawn Stevenson, and a protected 2013 first-round pick. The Hawks were desperate to unload Johnson's contract (four years, about $90 million left) and the Nets did well to keep MarShon Brooks and Gerald Green, while still having their mid-level exception to use on coveted prospect Mirza Teletovic.

The trade sending Joe Johnson to the Nets for Jordan Williams, Johan Petro, Jordan Farmar, Anthony Morrow, DeShawn Stevenson and a 2013 lottery protected first-round pick is now official.
The Nets announced it on the same day they bowed out of the race for Dwight Howard, and the acquisition of Johnson looked a lot better alongside Deron Williams and Howard. But with a core of Williams, Lopez, Johnson, MarShon Brooks, Gerald Wallace and Kris Humpries (if re-signed), should still be one of the better teams in the East.

It's too bad that Joe has been playing injured most of the season. Really never got his game together.

Joe Johnson hit a new low in Sunday's loss to Orlando, scoring two points with one rebound and two assists in 23 minutes.
Only Brook Lopez played more than 28 minutes for the Nets, but that doesn't take the sting out of this terrible game from Johnson. Even in 2012-13, which wasn't a banner year, he only scored single-digit points seven times. Between new offensive options in Brooklyn and Johnson's rapidly declining athleticism, we're not betting on him for a bounce-back year.

Joe Johnson was the lone bright spot for the Nets on Sunday, making eight 3-pointers on his way to 34 points, two rebounds, four assists and one block in 44 minutes against the Pistons.
He still hasn't done much through the course of the season with averages of just 0.1 blocks, 0.5 steals 2.8 boards and 2.5 assists, but it's nice to see he's at least capable of coming up with a big line. Johnson is the only starter that hasn't missed time yet, but he still hasn't produced enough value to deserve ownership in standard leagues in the long run. With the Nets shorthanded, he does have some value over the next week, though.

Joe Johnson took advantage of a reeling Sixers squad in the Nets' 130-94 win on Monday, hitting a career-high 10 threes on his way to a season-high 37 points, seven rebounds, five assists, one steal and one block. Johnson hit 13-of-20 shots and 10-of-14 threes and while he had to actually stand there and hit the shots, the Sixers have truly turned into the team that many folks thought they would be. Let this be a reminder to fire up your guys against the Sixers, but Johnson's outlook shouldn't change much based on this game. He's a top 100-120 value on the season and has benefited from absences up and down the lineup so far this year. Deron Williams went for 13 and 13 and Kevin Garnett added nine points, four boards, four assists, two steals and one block in the win.

Had a heckuva game against the heat last night and beat Lebron and co. I think he had 32 points and 5 assists or something like that. Also both teams were wearing nickname jerseys and so the back of joe's said "JJ"
