www.al.com/sports/press-register/index.ssf?/base/sports/1173435934258630.xml&coll=3ATLANTA -- Arkansas officials are already preparing the paperwork for coach Stan Heath's $900,000 buyout, according to a source close to the situation. If the Razorbacks fail to qualify for the NCAA tournament, Arkansas officials are expected to decline an NIT bid and move quickly to dismiss Heath. The name on the top of the Razorbacks' wish list is clearly Texas A&M coach Billy Gillespie. Another name rumored to be in the mix at Arkansas is Nebraska coach Doc Sadler. --------------------------- So it's NCAA Tourney or nothing, again.

I told a guy I work with,"You take Gillespie, Self, Tubby, and one more coach of your choice. I'll take Doc Sadler and Porter Moser. I'd like my odds."
This is not a commentary on who I would want, but on who we could probably get.
Has Stan done enough to save his job or were the ticket sales put out yesterday to show that he's gone no matter what?

Yeah, I'm starting to wonder myself if Stan is gone regardless of how the season ends.

Has Stan done enough to save his job or were the ticket sales put out yesterday to show that he's gone no matter what? I bet things are swinging towards keeping him on now. When we won today he looked like a man with new life. But I bet if we make the tourny and lose in the first round the buyout machine will kick back up. People are swayed by the last thing that happened. If we actually won some games in the NCAA tournament the ticket sales would perk up anyway.

As i said in another thread, I'll take hiring the first 3. Also, you can throw in long shot Mike Anderson. But if we end up getting Doc or Moser, I think we've failed.

I just don't think the last week of the season and the tourney should have anything to do with it. If it was bad enough to fire him a week ago, it still is. If he wasn't going to be fired, then the last week hasn't given reason for him to be.
The only way it should make a difference is if he was specifically told he had to make the NCAA to keep his job. Even then, I wouldn't trust anyone to keep their word one way or the other.

How can you judge a coach until his FULL SEASON is completed??? Especially in basketball. Even Barrett ALMOST admitted today that he was being unfair to Heath to discuss his demise before the season was over.

Even then, I wouldn't trust anyone to keep their word one way or the other. I think that's the way I looked at it. I expected in the last 2 weeks for him to give them a reason to fire him, ie finish the season on a 4 game losing streak or maybe winning MSU at Home. He has not provided that reason. Of course I'm starting to think the administration fits your line " If it was bad enough to fire him a week ago, it still is." Chancellor White reportedly said last week that Stan Heath's job did not depend on making the tournament. At the tim most took that to mean there was still a chance he could keep his job with a good showing eve if we diod not make the tournament. It seems now it could be more an indication that he's gone regardless. Either way, I'm glad he's going out kicking and screaming if only metaphorically.

My point was not to condemn (Coach) Heath. My point was that 3 or 4 games should not determine whether he keeps his job.
If the 5-year body of work, poor road and conference record, sliding attendance, etc. were reason to fire him last week, then they still are.
If a steady increase in yearly wins (with a slight dip this year), improved talent level, and other factors were good enough for him to keep his job last week, then they still are.
Either he is the man to lead what should be a talented, senior-laden group and recruit a very important class to replace them next year, or he is not. In the big picture, the outcome of SECT probably should not change that either way.
I am not pushing on side or the other. I'm not sure what is going to happen. With the leaks last week and the negative stats the ADG has been running this week, it would appear to me that he is gone. I also know several people who have said he will be here next year because they don't have a replacement lined up and will not fire him without having everything in order.
