Last year, Wedge ordered his pitchers not to swing the bat in National League ballparks during spring training. He rescinded the order this spring, and Cliff Lee singled in his first at-bat Wednesday.
"Two years ago, we had some injuries," Wedge said. "Last year, I just didn't want the guys trying to do too much. They understood what we were emphasizing, so I'm letting them swing."
On Lee's single, Wedge said, "Cliff's not a bad-looking hitter for a pitcher."
