Red Sox and OF Andrew Benintendi avoided arbitration by agreeing to a two-year, $10 million contract.
Benintendi had requested $4.15 million and was offered $3.4 million by the Red Sox in arbitration. A potential bounceback candidate after a disappointing 2019, Benintendi's lineup placement will ultimately depend on how the Mookie Betts deal gets resolved.

Andrew Benintendi went 0-for-1 on Saturday against the Blue Jays before being pulled for a pinch-hitter in the fourth inning.
Benintendi hit into a double-play in his first at-bat in the second inning and Red Sox manager Ron Roenicke opted to go with Kevin Pillar with two on and two out in the fourth inning. Pillar ended up grounding out, but this whole sequence summarizes where Benintendi is right now. The former top prospect is just 2-for-34 (.059) on the year and isn’t showing any signs of progress. He scuffled in 2019 as well, so those in standard mixed leagues are likely better off looking for help elsewhere.

Red Sox placed OF Andrew Benintendi on the 10-day injured list with a right ribcage strain.
Benintendi suffered the injury on a fall during Tuesday's game. X-rays came back negative, and the hope is that he will be ready when his 10 days are up. Kevin Pillar will play regularly while Benintendi is out.
Red Sox manager Ron Roenicke said after Wednesday's game that Andrew Benintendi (ribcage) will need more than 10 days on the injured list.
The initial hope seemed to be that it could be a minimum IL stay for Benintendi after he was diagnosed with a right ribcage strain, but evidently that won't be the case. It's been a nightmarish start to the 2020 season for Benintendi, who was just 4-for-39 at the plate before getting injured.
