Drew Smyly notched three strikeouts over two scoreless innings Tuesday against the Athletics.
The A's had most of their regulars in there and Smyly yielded just a one-out walk to Matt Chapman in the first inning, ending his day with back-to-back whiffs to finish the second. The southpaw's spring has begun with three scoreless frames, three strikeouts and no hits allowed, and he's needed a mere 19 pitches to cruise through those three innings. Smyly has made just one rehab appearance over the last two years but has bounce-back potential in 2019.

Drew Smyly allowed three runs on eight hits over four innings in a no-decision against the Indians on Thursday.
Smyly notched four strikeouts and also issued a pair of walks. The oft-injured 29-year-old southpaw has been stellar this spring, allowing only four runs on 11 hits with 11 strikeouts and three walks over 9 1/3 innings. The Rangers are expected to be conservative with Smyly from a workload standpoint, especially early in the regular season, but he’s locked into the Opening Day rotation and could be an intriguing streamer in deeper mixed leagues when he gets a favorable matchup.

Rangers designated LHP Drew Smyly for assignment. Smyly had posted an ugly 8.42 ERA, 1.91 WHIP, and 52/34 K/BB ratio through 51 1/3 innings (nine starts, four relief appearances) this season with Texas. The 30-year-old southpaw is still owed around $4 million from a two-year, $10 million deal he originally signed with the Cubs, and so he will probably pass through waivers unclaimed before landing back on the free agent market.

Brewers released LHP Drew Smyly.
Smyly elected to become a free agent, so he apparently had an opt-out in his minor league deal with Milwaukee. The 30-year-old southpaw struggled to an 8.42 ERA in 51 1/3 innings earlier this season with the Rangers and had been pitching for the Brewers' Triple-A affiliate in San Antonio.
Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports that Drew Smyly has signed with the Phillies.
It seems likely to be a major league contract after Smyly opted out of his minor league deal with the Brewers on Thursday. Smyly holds an ugly 8.42 ERA at the big league level this season but might slide into the Phillies' rotation if they want to move Vince Velasquez back to the bullpen where he's been more successful.

Drew Smyly matched a season-high with eight strikeouts over six innings in his Phillies’ debut against the Pirates on Sunday.
Well, this came out of nowhere. Smyly inked a one-year deal with the Phillies earlier this week and was completely dominant, allowing one run on four hits over six stellar frames. An RBI single by Melky Cabrera in the opening frame represented the lone tally against him in this one. The 30-year-old southpaw posted a brutal 8.42 ERA, 1.91 WHIP and 52/34 K/BB ratio across 13 appearances (nine starts) with the Rangers earlier this season, but will get an opportunity to stick in the Phillies rotation moving forward. Despite the solid performance, he’s an extremely risky fantasy proposition when he faces the Braves at home in his next start on Sunday.
