Patriots DE Trey Flowers injured his ribs Week 12 against the Dolphins.
Flowers suffered the injury during a sack late in the third quarter. He briefly reentered the game, but he ultimately headed to the locker room. Flowers leads New England with six sacks including two against the Dolphins. Already struggling to get pressure, losing Flowers for any amount of time would be a blow to the defense.

Sorry to hear that. I think he is irreplacable for the team.

ESPN's Mike Reiss does not expect the Patriots to use the franchise tag on free agent DE Trey Flowers.
Reiss also believes the Pats will pass on franchising LT Trent Brown, leaving K Stephen Gostkowski as the only candidate. Flowers was the Pats' only difference-making pass rusher in 2018, but they probably don't want to pay him the north of $17 million for one season the tag would demand. Flowers should fetch a pretty penny on the open market.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports free agent DE Trey Flowers is expected to earn "around" $17 million per season on a long-term deal.
Flowers would have been due $17.1 million under the franchise tag, but the Patriots opted not to apply it. With DeMarcus Lawrence, Jadeveon Clowney, Frank Clark and Dee Ford all tagged, Flowers is arguably the top edge rusher on the market. That could push his price beyond what is expected.

Lions agreed to terms with DE Trey Flowers, formerly of the Patriots, on a five-year contract.
Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, the deal will be worth $16-$17 million per season. That is exactly what Flowers' value was pegged at before free agency. The best defensive end available after the top of the class was taken off the board via a wave of franchise tags, Flowers will be reuniting with ex-Patriots DC Matt Patricia. Flowers had what was then the best season of his career under Patricia in 2017 before arguably topping it in 2018. The Lions, who are letting Ezekiel Ansah walk, had an anemic pass rush last year, so Flowers fills a huge need.
