Second-year QB Brandon Allen could challenge Chad Henne for Jacksonville’s backup job.
A 2016 sixth-rounder, Allen spent his rookie year as a weekly inactive. He's reportedly shown progress at OTAs, and the Jaguars gave a vote of confidence after not adding anyone to compete with him. Henne is the heavy favorite to open the season behind Blake Bortles.

The Florida Times Union wonders whether Brandon Allen could enter the mix for the Jaguars' starting quarterback job.
A second-year sixth-round pick out of Arkansas, Allen has moved the Jaguars' offense better than Blake Bortles and Chad Henne this preseason, albeit against second- and third-team defenses. While beat writer Ryan O'Halloran considers Allen starting "unlikely because this regime is all about winning Week 1," O'Halloran does acknowledge "stranger things have happened." Allen should play almost the entire game in the Jags' preseason finale.

Rams signed QB Brandon Allen to a reserve/future contract.
Allen spent 2018 on the practice squad as the Rams carried only two quarterbacks on the 53-man roster. Allen will be a camp arm for the offseason and training camp.

Broncos claimed QB Brandon Allen off waivers from the Rams.
Allen was ousted in favor of Blake Bortles in LA, but lands on his feet with Denver as Joe Flacco's backup. The Broncos were in the market for quarterback depth after losing rookie Drew Lock (thumb) to injured reserve. Allen has yet to play an NFL down since arriving as a sixth-round pick in 2016.

Brandon Allen completed 12-of-20 passes for 193 yards and two touchdowns in Denver's Week 9 victory over the Browns. You would've never guessed Allen hadn't thrown a regular season pass coming in. His arm strength wasn't anything to write home about, but the 27-year-old journeyman gave Courtland Sutton (5/56/1) and Noah Fant (3/115/1) more than enough opportunities to make plays, most notably hitting Sutton with a 21-yard money-ball on Denver's second drive to put the Broncos up 7-0 early. He was also helped by Fant after the catch on a shallow crossing route that went for a 75-yard score and another floater along the sideline that dropped into the rookie's lap to move the chains after the Browns failed to convert a fourth-and-4 toss over the middle. No. 42 overall pick Drew Lock is eligible to be activated at any point after the team's Week 10 bye, but Allen showed just enough to undeniably stick as the team's starter in Week 11 against the Vikings.

Bengals are expected to sign veteran QB Brandon Allen.
The journeyman signal caller will have to pass a physical and COVID-19 test before the Bengals bring him on as a possible backup for rookie QB Joe Burrow. Allen knows Bengals HC Zac Taylor from their time with the Rams. In three mostly disastrous 2019 starts for Denver, Allen completed 46.4 percent of his throws and averaged 171.7 yards per game. He'll likely compete with Ryan Finley for backup duties.
