NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Bills rookie RB Jonathan Williams is "fine" after suffering a rib injury in the third preseason game Friday night.
Williams had to leave the game after being body slammed at the end of a play, but the injury should not cost him much time. Even with LeSean McCoy sitting out, Williams worked behind Reggie Bush on Friday. He will open the season as at best the No. 3 back, and he is likely still behind Mike Gillislee as well.

Saints signed RB Jonathan Williams off the Broncos' practice squad. It's reportedly a two-year deal. New Orleans had an open roster spot after losing Daniel Lasco to a season-ending spine injury. Williams resurfaced on Denver's practice squad after he was among the Bills' final cuts at training camp this summer. He'll serve as a change-of-pace option behind Mark Ingram and Alvin Kamara. Williams adds depth to a Saints' running game that is already among the league's best.

The Times-Picayune's Josh Katzenstein writes Jonathan Williams is "among the players" who could step up with Mark Ingram suspended.
Williams was signed off the Broncos' practice squad last November, but he never cracked the active roster. With Mark Ingram suspended the first four games, he has a better shot to make the gameday roster this season, but he will need to beat out Daniel Lasco, Trey Edmunds, and rookie Boston Scott for the honor. Even if he does, Williams is unlikely to see much work behind Alvin Kamara.

Colts RB Jonathan Williams suffered a broken rib.
Williams isn't expected to be sidelined for too long, but it may affect his chances of making the active roster if it lingers longer than expected. Even if he makes the active roster, he won't see meaningful snaps unless there are a few injuries.

Jonathan Williams rushed 13 times for 116 yard and caught one pass for 31 yards in Week 11 against the Jaguars.
Williams was only active with Jordan Wilkins sidelined. He ended up taking over as the Colts' early down back after Marlon Mack left with a hand injury, but he made some splash plays even when Mack was still in. There's a lot of moving parts, but with the Colts on a short turnaround on Thursday night, Williams looks in line to lead Indy's backfield in carries. He's should be one of the top waiver adds this week.

Lions agreed to terms with RB Jonathan Williams.
It's a depth signing for Detroit. It will be Williams' fourth NFL team after he saw a couple spot starts for the Colts in 2019, rushing for a combined 220 yards in Week 11 and 12. Williams could be a waiver add if the Lions' running backs struggle with injuries in 2020.
