Texans released QB Ryan Mallett. The Houston Chronicle's John McClain reports coach Bill O'Brien wanted to cut Mallett on Monday, but GM Rick Smith convinced him to wait until they had a veteran replacement lined up. ESPN's Tania Ganguli reports that veteran is likely to be T.J. Yates. Mallett was already on thin ice after visibly showing up his coach and Brian Hoyer on the sidelines after being replaced against Indianapolis Week 5, and he sealed his fate by missing the team's flight to Miami last week. Attitude concerns aside, Mallett is just not a very good quarterback. His big arm should earn him another shot, but it would not be surprising if Mallett does not start another game in the NFL.

Free agent QB Ryan Mallett worked out for the Ravens on Wednesday.
It's Mallett's first visit since he was released by the Texans five weeks ago. The Ravens have Matt Schaub and Jimmy Clausen under contract at quarterback, but Mallett has more long-term appeal than both in a lost season for the Ravens. Mallett should resurface as a backup within the next two months.

Looks like he's signing with the Ravens.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Ryan Mallett's deal with the Ravens is worth up to $2.5 million in 2016.
ESPN's Ed Werder reported Mallett's deal had little to do with Matt Schaub's health, and this report supports that assertion. Despite boneheaded decisions both on and off the field, Mallett still has a big arm and some developmental upside. After finding out what life with Matt Schaub and Jimmy Clausen looks like, grooming Mallett to be Joe Flacco's backup for the next several seasons is not a terrible plan.

Ravens coach John Harbaugh suggested Ryan Mallett has a shot to start the final two games of the season.
"We’ll see where it goes this week," Harbaugh said. "Obviously, the clock is ticking. If we want to see him this year, we’re going to have to put him out pretty quick, but that’s a matter of whether he’s ready to play." It sounds like Harbaugh intends to start Mallett in the next two weeks as long as he can pick up the offense. Jimmy Clausen has been competent the last two games, but ESPN's Jamison Hensley said Mallett is the "frontrunner" to back up Joe Flacco in 2016. The apparent desire to get Mallett starts in 2015 supports that claim. No matter if it is Clausen or Mallett, the Ravens offense will continue to be a unit to target for streaming defenses the final two weeks.

Came in for Flacco last night after the injury. Threw a TD, wonder if he will get the start after Flacco left with concussion
