Ryan Mallett completed 21-of-45 throws for 189 yards and an interception in the Texans' Week 12 loss to Cincinnati.
This game was a big step back for Mallett, who continued to flash his powerful arm but was more frenetic and less in control as a pocket player. Mallett's first pass of the second half was intercepted by Bengals MLB Rey Maualuga. The Texans' run game was nonexistent one week after running all over the Browns. Mallett appears to be a quarterback who requires an effective and high-volume rushing attack to succeed. His accuracy is also highly streaky, and generally not very good. Mallett would be a weak two-quarterback-league play in Week 13 against the Titans.
Texans QB Ryan Mallett played through an injured right pectoral muscle during Sunday's Week 12 loss to the Bengals.
Mallett suffered the potentially season-ending injury in warmups, perhaps explaining his erratic play against the Browns. He's headed for an MRI and if it shows a tear, the chance he's been awaiting for so long is over. The Houston Chronicle is already suggesting that Ryan Fitzpatrick is "likely back" for the foreseeable future, although we wouldn't be shocked if the Texans turned to fourth-round rookie Tom Savage. Bill O'Brien has seen Fitzpatrick's ceiling and hit his head on it.
Guess that explains why he was so bad yesterday. Really sucks for him!

The Houston Chronicle reports Ryan Mallett (pectoral) is done for the season.
Brutal. Mallett waited over three years for his chance to become an NFL starter, and it ends after two games, only one of which he was healthy for. Mallett's reward for playing hurt in Sunday's loss was 60 minutes of bad film heading into the open market. It's unclear if the Texans will turn back to Ryan Fitzpatrick, or perhaps go into full-on evaluation mode with fourth-round rookie Tom Savage. Heading into his age-27 season as a statue-esque pocket passer with only 79 career throws, Mallett is going to be a strange case in free agency.

Drew Dougherty of the Texans' official website expects free agent QB Ryan Mallett to be Houston's Week 1 starter.
Mallett seems very likely to re-sign with the Texans after they traded for him and were the ones to give him his long-awaited shot last season before he tore his pectoral after making one start. He's even been working out at the Texans' facility this offseason. The Texans could release Ryan Fitzpatrick and make second-year signal caller Tom Savage the backup. Mallett has a huge arm but is as statuesque as they come in the pocket. Mallett turns 27 in June.

Texans coach Bill O'Brien confirmed his top priority at quarterback is re-signing free agent Ryan Mallett.
Mallett started just two games for Houston before suffering a season-ending pectoral injury in 2014. Seven career games isn't much of a sample size, but O'Brien insists Mallett is "a hard worker, and he understands our system." Houston's current in-house options at QB include journeyman Ryan Fitzpatrick and Tom Savage, a fourth-round pick in the 2014 draft.

Free agent Ryan Mallett says he would like to re-sign with the Texans.
Three months removed from a torn pectoral muscle, Mallett says he is "getting close" to full strength. There's no harm in bringing Mallett back on a team friendly deal, especially with veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick ready to fill in if things go south. With only seven games of experience, it's too early to tell if Mallett has the goods to be an NFL starter.

The Jets have "inquired about" free agent Ryan Mallett.
They've also "inquired about" free agent Brian Hoyer in new GM Mike Maccagnan's pursuit of competition for Geno Smith. It's believed the Texans want to sign both Mallett and Hoyer, although that seems fairly unrealistic. It's possible one goes to the Texans, and the other signs with the Jets.

Texans re-signed QB Ryan Mallett to a two-year, $7 million contract.
Former Patriots assistant and current Texans head coach Bill O'Brien has his quarterback room set. Mallett, a former Patriot will be the favorite to start -- but he'll be pushed by newly signed Brian Hoyer, also a former Patriot. The big-armed yet immobile Mallett started two games for the Texans last yaer, going 1-1 with a 67.6 passer rating. Ryan Fitzpatrick is a goner.

Coach Bill O'Brien insisted there's no leader in his quarterback competition.
There have been a lot of whispers saying Brian Hoyer will end up getting the nod over Ryan Mallett. "That would be absolutely untrue," O'Brien said. "Every play, every day is evaluated. These guys are very even. No decisions have been made." Even if O'Brien has made up his mind, the former Bill Belichick assistant wouldn't tell the media anyway.

Ryan Mallett replaced Brian Hoyer with just over six minutes left in Week 1 against the Chiefs, and completed 8-of-14 passes for 98 yards and a touchdown in a 27-20 loss.
Hoyer's benching appeared to be a genuine one, and Mallett capitalized by rallying Houston back to make it a one-score game with about a minute and a half left. Mallett's touchdown pass was good to Nuk Hopkins on a short fade. The Texans will have a decision to make this week, and our early guess is they'll go with Mallett as their starter in Week 2 against Carolina.

The Texans are sticking with Ryan Mallett at quarterback.
Mallett has played as poorly as a quarterback can play this season, but coach Bill O'Brien knows Brian Hoyer offers little hope as a backup. Still, a mid-game benching for Mallett seems more likely than not against the Colts on Thursday. Mallett simply has zero feel for what an NFL quarterback is supposed to do. Both Hoyer and Mallett are turnover machines, but Hoyer has a (slightly) better overall game.

More drama with RM as he miss the team flight and has to fly commercial. All signs pointing south for him in Houston according to reports.

Wouldn't be at all surprised if he's let go. Sadly.
