Scotty Thurman joins basketball players Jimmy Culp and Caldwell Jones, football players Charlie Flowers, Leotis Harris and Leslie O’Neal and coaches Rhonda Thigpen, Nelson Catalina, Alene Crabtree and Bill Ferrell in the 10-member class to be inducted Feb. 19 at Verizon Arena in North Little Rock. Ferrell and Crabtree will be inducted posthumously.
Thurman hit one of the most memorable shots in the state’s history when his threepointer with 50 seconds left helped the Razorbacks beat Duke 76-72 for the 1994 national championship in Charlotte, N.C.
Thurman is the school’s second all-time three-point shooter, making 267 in his career. He played for Final Four teams in 1994 and 1995.
Harris played at Little Rock Hall before playing for the Razorbacks from 1974-1977. He was named to the University of Arkansas All-Century team and was a member of the 1970s All-Decade team. He went on to play in the NFL for the Green Bay Packers.
Ferrell was a veteran of four Razorbacks coaching staffs and served as both trainer and baseball coach at Arkansas. He had a record of 136-135 in 15 years as the Razorbacks’ baseball coach. The University of Arkansas held “Bill Ferrell Day” during the 1961 Arkansas-Texas Tech football game. Ferrell is also an inductee in the National Trainers Hall of Fame.
