Joe Johnson will be the first FA visited by the Knicks, at midnight on July 1st when free agency begins.
The Knicks are "high" on Joe Johnson's list of desirable teams and ESPN's Chris Broussard even writes that "sources say NYK [are] Johnson's first choice." Johnson is close friends with Chris Bosh, fueling speculation that the duo will unite in the Big Apple.

The Mavericks will try to acquire Hawks free agent G Joe Johnson through a sign-and-trade, according to Yahoo's Adrian Wojnarowski.
Johnson is still expected to meet with Knicks first on Thursday in Los Angeles, but Wojnarowski warns that New York isn't necessarily his first choice. Still, this could all be a rumor stirred up by Johnson's agent to drive his client's price tag up. The Mavs don't have someone the caliber of David Lee or Chris Bosh to offer in a sign-and-trade.

The Hawks are reportedly set to meet with Joe Johnson in Los Angeles Thursday morning and plan on making a six-year, max offer worth around $119 million.
The Knicks aren't going to be happy and the Celtics may not be either, if Paul Pierce and/or Ray Allen leave. Johnson would stand to make about $24 million in 2015-16, which is one of many reasons this seems like a bad idea to most NBA insiders. Including us.

Joe Johnson met with the Knicks on Thursday morning after receiving a max-contract offer from the Hawks earlier.
He's headed back to the Hawks in all likelihood, but is still entertaining offers.

The Hawks are "cautiously optimistic" that Joe Johnson will accept the six-year, $124 million offer they made to the scoring guard at 12:01 a.m. on Thursday morning.
Johnson would be insane not to accept the offer, even though he'll probably still hear what some other teams like the Bulls and Knicks have to say. Although the deal sounds crazy from the Hawks' perspective, David Aldridge points out that Johnson will only be 31 in the summer of 2012 and he'll still have significant trade value. And even more interestingly, the current Hawks ownership likely won't be running the team when Johnson is in the fifth and sixth years of this deal.
Joe Johnson is expected to meet with the Hawks again Thursday in L.A. and all indications are that he will accept their max offer.
Johnson reportedly loved what new coach Larry Drew had to say last night and probably also loved the $120-plus million they're throwing at him. A few teams are still in play for Johnson via a sign-and-trade, but it appears very unlikely that he'll play anywhere but Atlanta next season.

According to Chris Sheridan, Joe Johnson is not a lock to take Atlanta's max contract offer.
It sounds like New York and the Bulls are still in the mix, which isn't really news, or Johnson would have signed the deal as soon as it was offered. This also raises questions about the Bulls looking for a sign-and-trade for a max contract to deliver three superstars to the Bulls. Could Johnson be one of them?

Joe Johnson is "intrigued" by the idea of playing for the Bulls or Knicks, but he would have to accept over $25 million less or engineer a sign-and-trade with the Hawks.
Atlanta has offered him a lucrative six-year max deal, but JJ doesn't seem to be in any rush. He could team up with Amare Stoudemire in New York, or any combination of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh in Chicago. The Hawks have been patient thus far, "but at some point the team will need an answer so it can pursue a viable replacement," according to CBSSports.com.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Joe Johnson and the Hawks remain on track to agree on a maximum contract worth $120 million over six years.
Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports! writes that "the Bulls and Knicks have long since moved on" from trying to recruit Johnson. This shouldn't come as a surprise, since he would otherwise have been turning down an additional year worth around $27 million.

The Hawks and Joe Johnson have finalized a six-year contract worth around $120 million, according to beat writer Sekou Smith.
The Knicks tried to convince Johnson that if he signed with them he could make up lost salary with contract incentives and endorsements, but obviously their pitch didn't work. JJ will rejoin a playoff-ready core in Atlanta, with a contract that won't expire until he's 35 years old. For the Knicks, missing out on Johnson means they'll probably start targeting swingman Mike Miller.
