Right-hander Jeff Fulchino has been assigned to Double-A Northwest Arkansas from Extended Spring Training. Fulchino, 28, signed with the Kansas City Royals as a minor league free agent in February, just prior to the start of spring training. He has made one big league appearance in his career, appearing as a reliever with the Florida Marlins in one game during the 2006 season.
Last season, Fulchino pitched for the Albuquerque Isotopes, the Marlins' Triple-A Pacific Coast League affiliate, where for much of the season he was teammates with Naturals' left-hander Paul Mildren. With the Isotopes, Fulchino was 6-2 with a 5.83 ERA in 16 games, all of them starts. Fulchino will work out of the bullpen for Northwest Arkansas, and will be in uniform tonight for the 7:05 PM game at San Antonio.
The Naturals' roster now stands at 23 active players, one below the Texas League roster limit of 24.
