I heard that student tickets weren't going to be free this season because they are expecting a better turn out this year. Is there any truth to that?

I haven't heard anything like that. But, if Shanklin has anything to do with it, I can see it happening.
But, I can't really see that baseball is ready to charge students just yet.

I hope we have a great turnout this season, and if we start off hot, I think we will.
But considering that there will not be any real promotion and the fact that it will still be cold in the first part of the season, I hope they aren't overestimating the crowd TOO much and going crazy on stuff like ticket prices.
Some of the greatest Hog baseball fans, the ones that were there even in those years when we weren't that good, are fans because baseball was affordable for their whole family. Not everybody can afford football and basketball tickets, especially with the donation aspect. So I think the athletic department needs to be REALLY careful not to push these people away.

I think they are making a huge mistake if this is true and I sure hope it's not.
Do they not realize they should try to build up the student fan base before they start screwing them?

Rather than charge students, what I would like to see is a shuttle bus that runs from campus down to Baum on game days. The only disadvantage that Baum has, is that it is not on campus. With the parking situation for students who live on campus, they often don't park near their dorm. To get to the game, they have to walk from their dorm to the pit or wherever else that they parked, and repeat the hike afterwards. Unless you are already an avid baseball fan, that would seem like too much trouble. But from a student's perspective if something is: 1) free 2) convenient 3) a good chance of being fun, aren't you likely to try it out a time or two? I don't know the hours that the buses run around campus, but might it be a possibility to add a Baum stop to an existing route on gamedays? Except for prime class times, I don't think that the buses have very many people on them anyway, do they? Does this make any sense?

That would be a lousy thing for them to do. Like Dale said, build up the student base before you screw them.

A bus route to Baum is a great idea. They could easily have a "special" route that stopped at Reid, the parking deck, and Pomfret and then went out to Baum and made all those same stops after the game. Plus, everybody would have to stay for the whole game to wait on their ride. They even have old transit buses that run during special times like the Wal-Mart invasion that they don't use for anything else. WPS!

I contacted Jason Suitt of the Razorback Marketing Department and this is what he said
"Students do not have to buy tickets. They are still free with student ID. I am not sure where that is coming from but that is not the case."
So there ya have it.

Easiest thing for Parking and Transit would be to run a shuttle from lot 56 (NE corner of Razorback and 6th) to the stadium. They could either add an extra route or extend the Gray route on gamedays. This would not only help students reach the stadium more easily but also provide an additional parking area for the general public on warmer weekends.
