I was bored on a conference call today:
School, Preseason Rank, 2004 Final, Change Texas , 1 , 2 , +1 Cal St Fullerton , 2 , 1 , -1 Miami, 3 , 4 , +1 LSU , 4 , 6 , +2 Tulane , 5 , 17 , +12 Stanford , 6 , 13, +7 South Carolina, 7 , 3 , -4 Georgia , 8 , 5 , -3 Arizona State , 9 , 20 , +11 Texas A&M , 10 , 15 , +5 North Carolina, 11 , 24 , +13 Washington , T12 , 23 , +11 Arizona, T12 , 7 , -5 Rice, 14 , 11 , -3 Georgia Tech , 15 , 12 , -3 Long Beach St , 16 , 9, -7 Florida , 17 , 16 , -1 Mississippi , 18, 25 , +7 Florida State , 19 , 14 , -5 Notre Dame , 20 , 19 , -1 Baylor , 21 , NR , ?? Vanderbilt , 22 , 18 , -4 Clemson , 23 , NR , ?? Arkansas, 24 , 7 , -17 TCU , 25 , NR , ??
Now I'm not one to take much of a look at polls, especially preseason polls. And I'm proud of the guys that we lost from last year, and they will, no doubt, be missed. But it's not like we shipped out the whole dang team and started over. Guys that we have coming back were also more than a small part of winning those 45 games. To drop 17 spots from where we finished last year? No one else moved anywhere close to that many spots in either direction. And to be below 2 teams that weren't even in the top 25 last year, after WE went to the CWS?
Is it time to play yet? It's time for the BS to stop, and the HR's, K's, and W's to start.

To drop 17 spots from where we finished last year? Good post. You take a look at Tulane. They had an All-American transfer into their program and moved up 12 spots. We dropped 17 spots, the next closest was Long Beach at 7. Guess what? They lost the National Player of the Year! It seems to me it would take a catastrophe (sp?) to drop 12 or more spots and yet that's exactly what we did. Did we lose an All-American? Did we lose the National Player of the Year? No and no! Now, we lost some great players and they will be missed, no doubt. It's just like Van said, we still have alot of players from last years team. I'm ready for some baseball!

Obviously, Brady Toops should have been player of the year since his abscence cost us as much as the actual POY leaving ;D
