No Division I team has dominated its conference in recent years more than Oral Roberts, which won its seventh straight Mid-Continent crown in convincing fashion in 2004. Over the last five years, the Golden Eagles have been a nearly invincible 106-6 in conference play . . . The draft took a heavy toll on ORU's 2004 squad, but the Golden Eagles should hardly skip a beat as they brought in Texas transfer Michael Hollimon (.225-5-28), who spent a significant portion of the last three years as the Longhorns starting shortstop. The team's best newcomer, however, is junior OF Travis DeBondt, who was drafted by the Indians in 2003 as a pitcher but has made his mark at Bakersfield (Calif.) JC almost exclusively as a position player. Like last year, ORU's fortunes will revolve around two-way star Dennis Bigley, who went 13-1 and served as the team's cleanup hitter. "We have a chance to have another pretty good ballclub," second-year ORU coach Rob Walton said. "We have good depth and variety on the mound. Our offense has a chance to be as good or better than last year. We'll miss some speed at the top of the lineup, but we don't have too many holes from 1-9."
