I can't imagine the willpower it must take to stand there and let somebody scream in your face. I would cry in a second if DVH so much as gave me the stare of doom.
That one today was Norm-worthy.

Norm-worthy, yes! I believe this one established DVH to the point that he now no longer has to be compared to the great Norm arguments. This one stands out on his own. I did see a little spit a couple of times. The hat turn was very special, "priceless" as some have said. It was a Baum classic. Well done Dave Van Horn. You've earned another Baum stripe. This argument, the tag from second, the checking on Hogryder.....you da man!

That has to be the funniest thing I've seen. The argument was at good as that one coach in the majors I believe who was kicking dirt at the umpire and did the dive into second.

That was in the minor leagues and yes that was the greatest argument ever. He dove into second, ripped up second base, threw it. Kicked dirt on the plate. Piled dirt on the plate. Came back out, used a water bottle to clean off the plate. Spiked the water bottle on the plate like a touchdown. Went into the dugout and threw all the bats onto the field....

That argument was great. I think it excited the team and the fans. After DVH got thrown out even Butler argued with Short, and continued for the next couple of at bats.
It was a stupid interpretation of a stupid rule. It wasn't like he jumped into it. The LSU batter made less of an attempt than Jones did, to get out of the way. I watched the replay of the game when I got home, and even Dave Neal on FSN thought that the LSU batter didn't do anything differently than Jones and got a different result. Go figure.

A few innings later when Walker foul tipped the ball and it hit the umpire the crowd went crazy and THAT was awesome.
All for one.

It was also pretty funny when the ump took his mask off to go get extra balls from the RBI girl (get your mind out of the gutter), and the fans were booing him (cause we booed him every chance we got.... and Rick, on the radio, says: They are booing cause they saw his face.

If what I heard on the radio broadcast is correct, I learned something today.
I believe it was Chuck that said they've recently changed the rule in college that you do not have to make an effort to get out of the way of a pitch, you just cannot move into a pitch (intentionally take one for the team). Always thought you had to "make an effort". Anyone know for sure on this?

I believe it was Chuck that said they've recently changed the rule in college that you do not have to make an effort to get out of the way of a pitch, you just cannot move into a pitch (intentionally take one for the team). Always thought you had to "make an effort". Anyone know for sure on this? That is correct. You will find nothing in the rulebook that states you must make an effort to get out of the way. The rulebook actually does still state that an attempt must be made. However, the amended rule below it allows for awarding 1st base. The umpire's arguement yesterday was that the ball was not in the batter's box, therefore no base. It was not a question of moving into it or not, but whether the pitch struck the batter in the batter's box. Rule : d. When hit by a pitched ball at which the individual is not attempting to strike; A.R.—If the batter intentionally gets touched by moving or rolling any part of the body into the pitch, the umpire shall call a strike or ball in accordance with Rules 7-4 and 7-5. (1) If the batter is hit by a pitch in the strike zone, the pitch is a strike, the ball is dead, no runners may advance and the batter is not awarded first base. (2) If the batter makes no attempt to avoid being touched by the ball and the pitch is out of the strike zone, the pitch shall be called a ball. The ball is dead, no runners may advance and the batter is not awarded first base. A.R.—If the batter freezes (makes no attempt to avoid the pitch) and is hit by a pitch that is clearly inside the vertical lines of the batter’s box, the ball is dead and the batter is awarded first base. (3) If the pitch is ball four, the batter shall be awarded first base and credited for being hit by the pitch (the ball is immediately dead).

I watched it on the DVR tonight.
Two conditions are presented in the amended rule. 1- Batter must freeze. 2- Ball must be clearly within the lines of the batter's box. Both points could be argued.
After an excessive outburst, "You're full of crap" was the magical phrase that got him tossed.
