Philip Rivers expects second-round TE Hunter Henry to contribute immediately.
"I think he’s going to be a key piece," Rivers said. "He’ll be right in the mix once he gets out here." While the Chargers would love it if Henry is able to contribute right away as the complement to Antonio Gates, the track record of rookie tight ends is uninspiring. Henry might make a few plays, but it is unlikely he is a consistent contributor this season.

Hunter Henry caught 6-of-8 targets for 83 yards and a touchdown in San Diego's Week 6 win over the Broncos. Henry led the Chargers in targets, catches and yards against the league's best defense, scoring their lone touchdown. The second-round rookie has now found the end zone in three straight games, the latter two of which Antonio Gates was active for. Looking like a younger Gates himself, Henry isn't abiding by the rule that rookie tight ends usually struggle. He's fast becoming one of Philip Rivers' go-to targets, and making an argument for TE1 status even with Gates in the lineup. The Falcons are a plus Week 7 matchup.
