Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star reports that the Royals plan to recall 1B/DH Kila Ka'aihue from Triple-A Omaha to replace the injured Rick Ankiel on the roster.
Finally. Ka'aihue, 26, is currently batting .304/.466/.620 with seven homers and 20 RBI with Omaha and owns a .386 career on-base percentage in the minor leagues. Just where he'll fit in the lineup is a legitimate question, but hopefully he'll produce enough to make it a moot point.

Royals optioned 1B/DH Kila Ka'aihue to Triple-A Omaha.
Ka'aihue is stuck between a rock and a hard place. The 26-year-old fan favorite has proven he needs no more time in the minors -- he was batting .304/.466/.620 with seven homers and 20 RBI with Omaha this season prior to his promotion in early May -- but the terrible organization for which he plays actually has two competent players at the only defensive positions he can man. With Billy Butler at first base and Jose Guillen at designated hitter, the defensively-challenged Ka'aihue will likely have to wait until next year to get an opportunity. He mine as well return to the minors, as KC predictably gave him only four at-bats in the 11 days he was on the active roster. The Royals should take the best offer they can get for Guillen and give his at-bats to a player that has a long-term future with the organization, but common sense isn't a strength of this particular front office.

Rotoworld -
Kila Ka'aihue got his first start Wednesday since being recalled and will see some playing time in the upcoming series against the Mariners, too.
The first baseman had one of the Royals' four hits on the night and narrowly missed hitting a home run when a drive was caught at the wall. "We’ll look at him a little bit in Seattle, too," manager Ned Yost said. "I’ve got a pretty good idea of how he’ll do." Interesting quote, since it's been clear to everyone but the Royals it seems that Ka'aihue has been deserving a lot of playing time for a while now but hasn't gotten it. He needs to be playing at first every day, with Billy Butler at DH and Jose Guillen on the bench, but since when do the Royals do the right thing?
