In one of the more bizarre moments in Arvest Ballpark history, play came to a halt just before the bottom of the second when a seven-month old beagle involved in an on-field promotion got loose onto the field. Missions' starting pitcher Jeremy Hefner managed to corral the dog, but it got loose again just after reaching foul territory and immediately sprinted towards center field. The beagle stopped just short of Missions' center fielder Cedric Hunter and relieved itself before Naturals staff got ahold of her, carrying the wayward canine off the playing field as the crowd of 5,003 fans stood on their feet and roared with amusement.

The beagle relieving herself in Centerfield is just one of those priceless moments.

I work for the Naturals & fans came up to me asking if this was a skit. As soon as the dog dropped his load everyone knew it wasnt. The funniest thing I have seen in awhile. I think after the game the GM of the Nats had a quick meeting before we left. Wonder if anyone got a chewing over the dog getting loose not once but twice & then fertilizing the lawn.

If you have followed this story the Naturals have used the national publicity to their advantage. Posting this on youtube & facebook so obviously no one was fired for the funny mishap. There was even an article in the Sunday(Apr 25)newspaper about the dog, Mona, being adopted by a Farmington family & bringing the dog back May 23rd for the "Bark at the Ballpark" promotion, where all fans can bring their dogs to the game. Better bring a pooper scooper!!
