The inside scoop on area 'Idol' auditionsThe grand prize? The title of "Fox 47 Idol," $400 in travel money and a three-night stay at a Holiday Inn by the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia, where the winner will get a guaranteed audition Aug. 27 in front of an "American Idol" producer. The singer will likely need to pass more auditions after that one, however, to sing in front of Randy, Paula, and Simon.
At the end, score sheets were separated into "yes" piles and "no" piles, some performances were watched on video, and we agreed on five top singers: The effortless Elise Jefferson of Rochester, 18; the surprising Brady Toops of Austin, 26; the poised Candace Miller of Mantorville, 19; the soulful Andrew Conway of Austin, 27; and talented "American Idol" tryout veteran Amanda Corey of Austin, 23.www.myfox47.com/stories/stories.htmlGOOD LUCK BRADY!!!

Ohhh please Ohh please Brady. I want him on American Idol so when he gets through the rounds, and when the judges say yes, we can overlay Chuck's Home run call over the video and youtube that bad boy. I wonder if he'll just sing baseball songs?

Charlie, how do you find this stuff? I got home from work today and got online for my hognation fix and here I see the 'Idol' links. This has been great fun for the guys. Brady said he would only audition if Casey did, too, so they both went and signed up. In the article there is the following line:
The only intentionally awful performance, as far as I could tell, was a man in sunglasses who sang a jokey rendition of the jingle for Universal Marine and RV.
That man was Casey, who had them rolling with laughter with this jingle and also the Hi-Vee jingle. Both Casey and Brady got some good airtime on the local Fox channel in their coverage of the tryouts, Brady for his singing and Casey for his comedy.
The local finals are tomorrow night in Rochester, MN, and I'm not sure if Brady has selected his song for sure yet, but I'm guessing he will use "To Love Somebody". For the first audition he did a short clip of that and also a bit of "In the Still of the Night". It will be interesting to see how it goes but in any case he will have fun with it. I think it will just depend on whether they like his down home sort of raw style or if they like a trained, professional sound.

We use google news alerts to keep up with former Hogs. Be sure Brady knows that we're all rooting for him!

BWAAAAHHAAHHAAA Off-topic, but if I didn't have friens in Des Moines IA, I would never have known what a Hi-Vee was! Goodwill must have some sort of deal with them, as there is one in like every Hi-Vee shopping center. GOOD LUCK BRADY!!

It was a controversial decision. The judges were down to the final two, Brady and a young african-american man named Quentin Adams. And it had come down to a single judge's vote. That judge would decide the Fox 47 Idol. Brady had brought the house down by nailing the BeeGees hit, "To Love Somebody", after dedicating it to "every girl that ever broke my heart, especially the last one", and Quentin had displayed a smooth as silk, but not always on key, rendition of "Ordinary People" by John Legend. The final vote did not go Brady's way and Quentin was awarded the trip to Philly along with a guaranteed audition. Immediately after the show, the judges were swarmed by Fox 47 staff who were irate that they had chosen Quentin over Brady, but the decision stood. It was a great night and a great show. Brady is pleased that he did everything he could and very well could have won. But now he can relax, play with his team in the State Amateur Baseball Tourney and focus on getting his CD finished and put out on the market.

It's a few months away from completion and the marketing channels are not yet completely settled. I'll post how to get it when it is available.

Brady will always be an "Arkansas Idol" - even if he didn't make it as Fox 47 Idol. Great story! As always best of luck to all the Toops.
Hopefully, we can hear Brady sing the national anthem at Baum sometime.
